The short version: be an adult, keep your clothes on, treat the other person the way you’d want to be treated by a stranger, and don’t try to sell them anything. If someone else doesn’t, press Next and report them.

Every chat on Chit Chat is one person talking to one other person they’ve never met. That only works if both of you can press Start without bracing for something awful. These rules apply to video, voice and text chats, and to anything you put on your profile — your name, photo and bio.

1. Adults only

You must be 18 or older. Accounts that appear to belong to someone under 18 may be removed. If the person you’re matched with looks or says they’re underage, end the chat and report them — don’t keep talking “to check”.

2. No nudity or sexual content

No nudity, no sexual acts, no exposing yourself on camera, and no sexual messages or pictures in text chat. This includes profile photos. It doesn’t matter whether the other person seems to want it: this is not an adult site, and the rule is the same for everyone.

3. Respect the person on the other side

  • No harassment, threats, bullying or repeated messages after someone has made it clear they’re not interested.
  • No hate speech or slurs based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or nationality.
  • No violent, gory or shocking content, and nothing that promotes self-harm.

Disagreeing is fine. Pressing Next is fine. Being cruel isn’t.

4. Don’t expose other people

Don’t record, screenshot or share someone else’s face, voice or messages to embarrass or pressure them, and don’t post another person’s name, address, phone number or social accounts. Screenshots you take to report someone to us are the exception — that’s what the Report button is for.

5. No ads, spam or contact-farming

Chit Chat is for conversations, not promotion. Don’t advertise products, services or other apps, don’t post links, and don’t use your name, photo or first message to push people toward your socials or phone number. Accounts that exist to move people off the platform may be removed.

6. No scams, fakes or impersonation

  • Don’t ask anyone for money, gifts, gift cards or crypto.
  • Don’t pretend to be someone else, including Chit Chat staff.
  • Don’t threaten to share recordings or images of anyone — that’s sextortion, and it is reported to the authorities where the law requires it.

7. Nothing illegal

No drugs, weapons or other illegal goods, no content you don’t have the rights to, and nothing that breaks the law where you or the other person live.

What happens if someone breaks the rules

Depending on how serious it is, we may remove content, limit features, suspend the account for a while, or ban it permanently. The most serious cases — anything involving minors, threats or extortion — may lead to a permanent ban, and may be passed to law enforcement.

If you think we got a decision about your account wrong, email [email protected] with the details.

How to report

Take a screenshot before you leave the chat. Then open the person’s profile — everyone you’ve talked to is in your call history — and use Report: pick a reason, add a short description and attach the screenshot. Use Block on the same profile so they can’t contact you. Our guide on staying safe when you talk to strangers online covers the common scams, and the Help Center explains where each button is.
